Well i have myself a new 2001 TD5 which is really nice, its quiet, smooth, very quick, very comfortable and has plenty of toys like cruise and aircon, but i still have my old 95 disco 300 tdi which isnt that comfortable not very fast and not many toys but its been so reliable im not sure i can part with it, its been great off road too, so which would you keep ?

Because there's enough to be worrying about with welding and engine/trans never mind all the electrics. Although if I found a clean d2 v8 pre-facelift that I could afford I'd buy it. But I don't have a 300tdi to replace. Plus, d1 seem to be appreciating, where as d2 are starting to clog up the council estates, especially early ones with later headlights that don't match the bumper. And unless you have 5 small kids the rear seats aren't much good. I do like a nice d2, but i prefer simplicity.

Well I think it can type now ( been laughing) because I think the only people that would say the TD5 is "quiet, smooth, very quick" are people that are getting out of a 300TDI. But I think if you could afford it, keep both. You never know when you might need a backup car. :D If you have to get rid of one keep Disco 2 and sell Disco 1 to friend or better yet enemy.

Well the missus also has a very nice safari 300 disco so we do have another if we need one, However i do agree about the simplicity of the 300, and i quite like its agreesive appearance with the big off road tyres and the winch bumper and winch on the front, people definately give way to it.

I'd keep the TD5. Just for that engine.

D2 v D1, D2 is faster, better handling, great engine note, can have better axle articulation if it has ACE.

Less rusty body, but chassis more prone to rust

Yes the rear chassis does need some work but once thats done its rust free, they are a very nice Landy lol

My wife is due to give birth in March and I've been looking at a disco3 HSE ,We've got a bmw coupe and 300 disco. There's no way I could part with my disco,It's like a pet. I'll probably get the disco 3 and keep my tdi

You would like my private plate then, the last three letters are HSE lol, And yes i know what you mean about the disco they do become like pets its a tough decision coz you know as soon as you sell it you wish you hadnt lol.

I have drivien a D1 and a D2 and prefer the D2 by a long way.

They both have character but different character.

When it comes to the earlier Discoverys. Could be a woofling along with a lovely engine note, or a dependable but will get you there clatter, or a busy sounding means business truck sound.

I have come across all 3 and ended up with a TD5 D2.
