Hi all new to the range rover scene...got a 4.6 hse on a 97 plate....prob been asked loads but where is beat place to get a new key and that....thanks guys...

If you plan on using both keys then only the stealers. You can get clones but cannot use both without resynching every time you use one.

Budget £160.

Should be. If not just follow the procedure in the handbook for your year.

Cool thanks bud...if i go dealers will it be all synced for me ready to go??
Dealer only for a new key FOB. You need to order a key #3 or you may find it's a duplicate of your existing key and you cannot use 2 identical keys.
You will have to sync the key but it's a simple process covered in the owners handbook. Don't let the dealer tell you otherwise.

Sorry MOZZ, I think you are wrong on the keys, the order form the dealers have has key 4 as default, but that can be overridden, it has been covered before.
As the FOB uses a rolling code, it will always have to be synced as HUFF cannot possibly know the code, on later cars, sync happens automatically when the key is put in the ignition.

Don't have to be late cars Keith, passive coil was fitted MY 1996 and up. :);)

Thats later than 95:p My 96 does not have the passive coil either, I thought that change came in in 98.:)

No MY 1996. It appears on the MY 1996 wiring diagrams anyway. A little later that 1995 yes i'll give you that. A car first registered in 1996 does not need to have been made in 1996 to that MY specs. The BECM will tell you date of manufacture.

Mid 96:)

My key works fine, don't need another but the key ring hole is broken. Would I need a whole new fob or just the removable key?

If so, would it need programming or is it the fob that does that?

Only need it to attach other keys :(

Hi Rachel,

You have mistakenly missed the introduce yourself section, :p and posted on an old thread that is 2 years out of date.

It would help if you stated what Range Rover it is, year etc.

Cheers

Sorry, I didn't realise that was relevant!

I have a 2007 freelander 2.

I don't need a new key, just want one so budget is very low. If writing on old threads isn't how things are done around here then I apologise.

Hi @Rachel jane ,

Not a problem , but if the post is an old one , then there is a good chance the people who were involved may have moved on,

However as you are asking for a freelander 2 key and you posted on a thread that is in the Range Rover section, you may not have got much useful info....LOL... RR drivers are a strange lot.

I would advise writing a new post in the freelander section. Those guys have more than likely got all the info on how and where to get you new keys and what is involved.

Good luck,

Cheers

Ebay would be a good bet for a new case for the key just make sure you change all the bit from inside if is anything like the range rover one there is a tiny transponder inside that gets over looked and lost
And welcome to the funny farm I mean forum.
