Hi everyone I’m a new member and not really sure where to post. I have a 15 plate Range Rover Sport Autobiography 3.0 tdv6 bought from Land Rover 2 years ago, this is my 5th car from them in 6 years, what can I say I like Range Rovers! Lol! Well I did do! Engine seized 2 days ago possible crankshaft fault, not had a diagnosis yet but pretty sure that’s the problem. Is currently with my local Land Rover service department. I’m just 4 weeks out of a 2 year warranty and now this, that’s how bad my luck is! I have heard this is a common problem but I guess we just think it will never happen to us especially being a 4 year old car with only 45,000 on the clock. So I guess what I’d really like to know is where do you think I stand with JLR footing the bill for this? Side note...all servicing and mot’s done by Land Rover main dealer and the most recent just 2 months ago. Thank you for reading, any advice appreciated.

I would hope, you’ve brought them enough business and it is a known design fault. Once they got your money though things change...

Others will be along shortly more in the know.

Thanks for your reply. Surely JLR are well aware of this issue? And only being four weeks out you’d hope they would honour that.
Welcome. Have you asked them if they will honour it? Best find out before paying dealer prices.

I believe BBC watchdog were doing a search for peeps to discuss this on the show this week, may be worth having a look to see if you can get any info on it. They were posting on FB .

Cheers

LR dealers are notoriously tighter than a nuns sphincter.

So i'd be inclined to keep a close eye on everything!.

As for the 3.0.

It's common for crankshafts to snap!! Very common!!

Main dealer said they will approach JLR on my behalf when they have the diagnosis which I might add they are charging me £100 for! I said don’t bother I can tell them exactly what’s wrong with it lol

If it was yours from new and is fully LR Main-StealerDealer stamped at the appropriate intervals, then any reasonable man might conclude that the engine in the thing is "Not fit for purpose" ;)

I am second owner got it when it was 2 years old but it does have full LR service historyI really hope I get someone reasonable!

Not theirs from new. Bought two years ago.
Indeed. But 45,000 miles for a 4 year old car with full main-dealer stamps and a broken engine would raise an eyebrow somewhere one would hope.
JLR should be wary of a class-action suite or similar and do the decent thing. Such things have brought companies low in the past.
I am minded of the Ford Pinto debacle where the US courts fined Ford 16 times their estimate of what it would have cost them to recall and do the decent thing (my memory may be wrong on this).

Everyone always hopes that others do the right thing. Shame that when they are the one being hoped to do the right thing, many forget that hope.

I really am praying that they do help me with this because I certainly do not have the money for a new engine especially not after owning range rovers for 6 years lol

I have a friend with a newish Range rover, he buys a extended warranty each year, I think it is about 500 pounds but be said he has not had a year when he has not had more than that back, I think a good idea when you have a chance of a problem like this, a bit late for you I know but may be for next time
