Just had a new screen fitted and only clears the passenger side is there anything I could check or do I have a new broken screen.
 
Iirc each side is fed from a seperate fuse hidden behind the passengers side glovebox, 40 amp rings a bell?
The feed wires to the screen are in the engine bay tucked up right at the back, not sure where earth wires are located?
 
Cheers lynall checked the drivers side screen connector have a circuit on the screen and 12v coming in so looks like a bad connection all cleaned up will see if it now works.
 
You complain about having only half of your screen working? I DREAM of having half of my Disco 2 heated screen working. If i've got seven filaments working that's about all i have.
I bought the car about four months ago and nearly wet myself with joy at the thought of this winter jumping in, starting the engine, switching on the two heated screens and only having to scrape the side windows.
Alas it is not to be... :(
Oh well, i suppose i can't miss what i've never had.

:D that's what I like a simple cheap fix both sides now working and clears a lot quicker than the last screen.
 
Interesting, didn't know you could get a heated screen for D1, I assume this would be an easy retro fit?

Had one in my old 97 300.

It is literally only a bit of wiring/relay/fuse holder and it will work.

My series two screen is just a toggle switch driving a relay, simple as can be.
 
I have factory fit heated screen and seats in my D2 and now find them a must have in winter so it is good to know I will be able to retro fit a heated screen into my D1 as well as heated seat elements when I finally get it on the road.

Use the carbon seat elements they heat up way faster than the wire style ones.
 
I was surprised to hear the D1 had heated screen because I understood that Ford held the patent for the heated screen and it was only fitted to the D2 because Ford owned LR from 2000ish but for some reason it would appear LR were some how granted permission to use it before Ford bought LR:

I can only comment on a 300 series Disco 1 which did have the the option of a heated windscreen although it’s was standard fitment on the ES and the 5 door XS.

As for the Fords ‘Quickclear’ screen you may have seen, or not, the TV add at the time which that screen was clearing from being frost covered which was in seconds, and it did, as my neighbour at the time had a ‘Quickclear’ fitted to his Focus, as he intended showing me while was scraping the ice off my RR, so being impressed I ensured that it was fitted to my next vehicle which happened to be a D1.

The D1 screen it has never been quick to defrost taking around 3 or 4 minutes to soften fully the frost much like the rear screen, now to clear the frost from the screen I switch the heater on full and within 30 seconds there enough heat to start thawing the screen and parts of the front side windows and warm the interior at the same time.

With the two cars Ive owned since I purchased my disco, both defrost the screen quicker, something like 2 minutes fully defrosted is the time for my present Jaguar, so just need a sweep from the wipers and on my way.

Heated screens which defrost very quickly are standard, now so Fords trade Mark is well out of date.

Two of my workmates have fords, one a 2012 fiesta and the other a 2019 mondeo and both clear faster than my disco one and the mondeo faster than the fiesta

Iirc some of the mercs had electrical heating elements in the dash to supply warm air for screen clearing duties?

Got heated on my series actually very good, but more useful to keep the screen misting up on the inside when its damp out.

You was Done :) Why didn’t you return then to the dealer? after all paying 32 grand or so for each they should have been as stated in the sales brochure, I’ll copy the page from my sales brochure if u wish.
 
My '98 50th anniversary has got a heated screen fitted as standard....
That’s because it was a GS model upgrade and then called an Anniversary, but didn’t meet the ES spec unless u purchased options, but then u got the stainless steel kickplates as standard and of course it was fitted the badges stating Anniversary 50.
LR never put them into full production, which was understandable as the D2 was soon to arrive.
