Hello all

I'm new here.

Can anyone advise how to remove the gear knob and gaitor from an 04 Freelander (manual) please.
Can anyone also recommend a tasteful alternative( pull reverse) to the current shiney worn out thing I currently have or even a source of a new LR one.

P.s Sorry if this is an old chestnut !

Thanks

Knobbly.

Don't know if 04 FL gearknob is any different to my 52 FL but the knob on mine just unscrewed.

If the gaitor is the same, it is held in by 4 clips on the inner edge of the flat part of the trim holding the bottom of the gaitor. Easy to get off fiddly to get back on.

Cheers

I still have a '56 loan vehicle. The gearknob on this one unscrews to the left.

Hope this is useful,

Steve

Thanks guys.

The gator seems does seem to be held at the top by something. Is this part of the gear knob or something which can be transferred to a new one ?

I think that you need to detatch the lower part off the gearknob and then unscrew it.

If you fit an aftermarket gearknob then the chances of the gaiter holder clipping to the new one are very slim.

Has anyone done this successfully with an aftermarket gear knob and if so which ( pics would be helpful). I need to change it as the current one is really shiney and slippery ! Quite odd given it inly has 24k miles on the clock !
