I sat in a new freelander today at Chester LR,
Very Nice, My brother was collecting 110csw after service(£450)
I found a big problem with manual gearbox.
They have a 6 speed box, with the gate for reverse to the right of 5/6 gear.
when changing through gears 1-2 then 2-3 and 3-4 its fine
BUT 4-5 is a problem.you cant help but pull it to far and into gate for reverse. Yes it is hard to find 5th gear.
I asked brother to sit in and and try gearbox, i did not tell him why.
He did exactly what i did, 4th to gate for reverse.
Has anyone else sat or got a new 1 with manual,
is it the same?
Brian

I thought the same when playing with the gear lever with a static car in the showroom, but it is absolutely fine when driving - a really good gearbox in fact.

I have had a Freelander 2 on two occasions from the dealer, I found that changing down from 6-5 that the lever springs out and then when your not used to it you can change into wrong gear.
On the whole looks and seems a good motor, makes my TD4 commercial feel like a tractor :D

Cheers

'spose that's one benefit of havin a gaylander - you get to drive lots of other cars whilst yours is in fer repair!

Who was talking about repairs, twas in for a service on both occasions and the gaylander remark, thats really original!

I hope you have a tougher hide than that, if you own a gaylander. you will need it, and a sense of humour.

ha ha..gaylanders are funny.. I pulled two oot the snow last week wi me old ser 3... ha ha I like gaylanders..

Don't worry I have a real tough hide, and a great sense of humour, I drive a Freelander you get used to it ;) :D

Hi, we've had our Freelander 2 SE for what must be six weeks now. Covered quite a mileage already.

We've experienced no problems as mentioned with the gear change. Though first to second can seem a bit lumpy on occasions.

Absolutely thrilled with it and find it a vast improvement over our W reg. 1.8Exi (which has stayed in the family)

The only things that we miss are: ability to lower the back window & the inability to only part open/tilt the sunroof.

Pricey yes but far nicer than Nissan X Trail etc...
