When I bought my beloved it only came with the one keyfob. I know this tends to be a bad thing however the person I bought it from lives sufficiently far enough away that I don't have theft as a concern. I do, however, have the issue of getting in to the car and driving it if something happens to the fob. After reading another thread/post this morning (http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/3218279-post3.html) i'm even more concerned about it.

So, how does one go about getting a new key/fob for the car? I don't have the EKA code either. It's certainly no obvious in any of the guff I got with the car (no service book).

Regretfully main dealer.....then open yer wallet, bend over and get buggered for around £160.....

Get a new FOB ASAP, ask for a number 3 if you don't know the number of your existing FOB as you cannot have 2 with the same number. Also get your EKA code from a dealer before you get stuck, normally free, just need log book and ID.

holy fsckin shiznot.

srs? :(

Not something an RR/LR indy can do?

Keys are pre-coded to the car, so unfortunately you have to go to a main dealer, give them the chassis number, you then tell them which key number you want (usually 3 or 4 as 1 & 2 come supplied with the car new) they then order this for you from Huff in Germany and you then pick it up from the dealer....

Not sure an indy can order new keys for you, you can ask, but maybe all they will do is contact the local MD anyway!!

Thanks guys - no more chippies this month then!

I have a non land rover fob with normal key. Been offered another for £50 so not necessarily a dealer job, most good automotive locksmiths should be able to sort one. Having heard stories of the genuine ones lasting barely a year I won't be handing over £160 any time soon. Only difference is it doesn't appear to superlock it but that can be a good thing...!

edit- just looked through my paperwork and it came from Avon diagnostics but they appear to be trade only looking on their website.

Do you not have to check the BECM is original as a new key from dealer based on chassis no may not work with a new BECM?

having ordered a new one for mine just last week, after speaking to 4+ dealers you can now only order key 4????

anyway yup £160 and they will also try and sell you a labour charge of £63+vat to sync the key to the car!? told them to shove that! I'm capable of following the sync procedure for free!

Had my new key 4 from the dealer for 2 years and it still looks and works like new. Used every day.

I was quoted £164.94 inc vat from my local dealer. I havn't ordered one yet although I should do...

On holiday at the moment and ended up spending far more than I expected so it may have to wait for a little while... ah well!
