Finally got my engine swapped from a 2.5 N/A to a 2.5 TDi.... WOW!!

What a difference it makes. A lot quieter than my N/A, and the torque delivery is spot on; exactly where you want it - low down the rev range.

Where I live there is steep hill, after steep hill, so I need the grunt very low down the rev range

Interestingly, i have been driving a 300tdi Discovery whilst mines been off the road - to be honest I wasn't that impressed. Yeh, it's fairly quiet, and very smooth, but I thought the power, and torque delivery was in the wrong place.Unless the turbo was really spinning nothing was really happening.

With the 200, the torque is there on tap, and I cruised UP a steady hill at 65mph:D:eek::D I forgot what that felt like:rolleyes:

I have to agree as with many on here, the 200TDi is a brilliant engine.

Just need to fit my power steering box now:).

bet it feels a tad agricultural without power steering and i wil agree the 200tdi is a superior engine

Hi,

Im glad you two agree the 200tdi is a good engine. My '87 TD is in Kent right now gettin a disco 200tdi engine and its gear box dropped in! :D:D:D

I hope it works out well....

Richard.

i did the same with mine a while back , 200 tdi and power steerin , completely changed it ....far more power and easier to drive ......but in my opinion it takes half the fun away .... a proper landrover is a series....

You now have a very nickable land rover though so be careful where you park it and how you secure it. The 200 and 300 tdi engines are on the hot list for thieves these days

theres a time and a place to be good and proper and thats at a land rover event

but 99.99% of the time ur not i love my 200tdi in ma disco one of the greatest things is its so easy to work on plus now im lifted 3.5inches and got 33inch tyres i dont even have to jack her up better than any car anyday

I have a whole Defender power steering thing here, pump, steering box, all joined up with hoses, if anyone is interested.

No Guarantees but it was bought from a reliable source who said it was working fine.

No bracket for the PAS pump though ....

Anyone interested ?

And 29.6 MPG.... And thats carrying two sets of ladders on the roof:eek:
That's 55 more miles per tank than my 2.5 N/A was giving me.:)

Very Impressed with this engine:D

Just need to sort out where my clunks are coming from now, to smooth out the drive:mad:
