1995 V8
Well looks lie I am going to have to bite the bullet and fit a new engine.
Car is a 4.6 but have been offered a 4.0.
Any idea of how much I should offer.
The engine is from a 2000 Thor and does work
 
You need a Rover v8 Gems Block..

Thor has differences in the mount in the block for the flywheel crank trigger, front cover, knock sensors, coil packs sump is different etc etc.

What makes you think your engine has bitten the dust.
 
Emission failing
Garage reckon bore is scratched.
Thought I could fit Thor engine but GEMS manifolds and electronics

AS FAR AS I RECALL ADOLF DIDNT HAVE A P38 ?????
 
Two cylinders are well down in compression but cant remember the values.
Gems engine would be preferable but the Thor is local
 
Worn cam loabs will effect compression and emissions and a known problem.

This highlights why we went down the rebuild route with MrGorsky. We knew the history of his and we figured better to fix the known issues with his rather than risk a second-hamd lump that may have issues of its own in waiting. We hope his will be good for at least another 100k now and seeing as we had the engine out he's done all the other jobs like brake lines and ball-joints.

That reminds me, it is all waiting to go back in when he returns from holiday. Just need to hire an engine crane. The engine, gearbox and transfer box is all reassembled and bolted together waiting to be dropped in! I'm keen to know what the new cam will feel like. He's gone for a higher torque one at lower revs, I think.
 
No I dont know which cylinders and I do like the idea of fixing my engine as I know the history of the car but I could do with her back on the road.
I could always buy a wee run around tho

Any bubbles in the coolant tank with the engine running? That's another sign of head gasket failure. Doesn't always occur. Depends on where the break is.
