Hi guys.. New to the site and needing a bit of advice if poss. I have a 96 P38 4.6. Have just had a new remanufactured engine fitted from turners a few days ago following the usual block failure.

I am not that great with terms so please excuse me. Engine has just done 120 miles and has what I can only descibe as a whine/knock from the 'top' of the engine. It is pretty much absent at idle but is more in lower gears and when under strain.

Any advice would be great as obviously after investing so much it it I dont want to cabbage the thing!! Have contacted the mechanic who fitted it, but he is a mobile mechanic and so may not be able to get to me for a bit

All ideas greatly appreciated :)

Yeah think I will guys. Any ideas on what it could be?? Sounds like it is not in the engine as such, but will fire them an e-mail now. Thanks for the advice.

Yes it was the full 4.6 engine and oil pump with upgraded liners. It was £3500 all in all. Have only done 120 miles with it so far.

thats a lot of money mate,do not use the vehicle until you have talked to the engine builders.:eek:

Not for sale sorry :p

time will tell my friend. ;)

GD, deals off. you drive a doozel! :5back2:

jez, just a thought, still think the best is to talk to turners but it could just be yer alternator bearing or belt tensioner, so don't sweat it too much and wait for their reply.

Just had a bit of a poke around and it seems to be comming from a bearing or similar from the belt that is driving it... quite relived.... but still need it fixing.

Thanks for the input guys.:D

If it's the belt tensioner bearing, it's a relatively easy job to replace and a replacement bearing is easily available from a local bearing stockist for a lot less than a new tensioner.

On a scale of 0-10 with 0 being nothing and 10 being something, I would rate this job as a 3 !!!!
