Hi all about to get some new door tops at last. anyone fitted SP door tops? Are they any good? £120 for a pair glazed. sounds good value to me.

That sounds expensive. Not familiar with that manufacturer though. Can get them for around £95.00.

Got mine from Craddock's earlier this year. Included glass and was primer coated. They do not come with window locks.

Cheers for the replies. Think I'll get some sp ones. I've got series 2 door tops on my S3 for some reason. Are the window locks better on a series 3?

+1 on the Rocky Mountain Spares ones. They are pricey, but if you are keeping the vehicle, they are worth it. Aluminium, so won't rust in the future. Plus both the front and rear panes slide a bit like Mil spec door tops.

Carnt afford rocky mountain ones, I'll have to make sure the ones I get, get well rust proofed ! ;-)

Rocky Mountain in the UK are in the process of closing down. They were blaming Brexit and the drop in the value of the pound as well as getting close to retirement age (or so I heard via the series 2 club forum)

I understand the people who make the bits in Canada are still going to be doing that but that probably means they will be a bit more pricey than before.

No idea on the truth of it, but Brexit??? Come on, it would have had zero affect thus far and in the future. Load of crock if that's their reason. I suspect that is just a convenient excuse.

The convenient excuse could partly be right - they seemed to have had pretty bad sales service, I asked about their overdrive and after several emails I gave up on the idea as I couldn't get any clear information from them (other people on the series 2 forum seem to have had similar experiences)...

...with out going into Brexit being good or bad (something for the off topic section of the forum if such pointless discussions are necessary) the one thing that is quite evident is the drop in the value of the pound. That is bound to have an effect on a business that mainly buys expensive (almost bespoke - trying to be high end) products from outside of the UK and sells them on within the UK. That has to be a very exchange rate dependent situation...

good point, had forgotten that, had to re-use the existing lock when I did mine, the holes for the lock and screws were there just no lock

Read in the LR magazines that Britpart are now the agents for selling RM overdrives.

I saw that in britpart monthly newspaper. Not something I normally read. Grabbed a copy at a landy garage. The newspaper has fairly lightweight stories, mostly advertorial stuff on fandango parts and nobby conversions of Defenders. Why do peps want to turn a defender into a kinda boy racer thingy ? Why not just buy an Audi or BMW.

Indeed - actually I think they ought to stick with Citroens...

Thanks I heard that too (on t'other forum). I've decided against the idea now - I reckon the Ashcroft gearing fix is probably more sympathetic.
