I'm trying to replace the back discs on my disco 1, but I'm having a problem separating them from the hubs.

Does anyone know of an easy way?

Assuming that you have the hub off and have undo all the bolts in the back of the disc that holds them to the hub them it is just the use of a hammer or press to remove.

Refitting is reverse of removal :D

If you are struggling to undo the bolts, just drop it back into the wheel to get a better grip. Then you should be able to just knock it off the hub, it is a tight fit.

I have got the bolts out (Using James's method), but even with a big hammer, I can't separate them. I don't have access to a press.

On my old series drums, I knew I could use the securing screw in another hole to drive the drums off. I notice there are similar holes in the discs for the disco. Does anyone know what size bolts will fit these holes so I can try that?

I'm stuck with the back end of my Disco in the air, and it's bank holiday weekend, so can't get any help from a garage :(.

Thanks.

one of mine just lifted off.. the other I had to drop... disc side down.. onto paving... took a chunk out of the paving and appeared to have done nothing until I picked up the hub and the disc stayed where it was...

As the guys/girls said, if you have all the bolts out from the back then as it is the discs you are replacing just beat the hell out of them till they part, the hub will not even get a mark on it. Give the hubs a real GOOD clean up with a wire brush and file off any burrs, if not the disc runout will drive you crazy!

regards

Dave

me and my dad got 2 large pieces of wood on the ground, rested the part on the wood , 1 of us held it the other belted it until it came off, it took hell of a wallup mind!

Since you are replacing the discs anyway....heat them them up,cool them fast....put the hub in a big vice and wail on the discs with a lump hammer...or if desperate, smash the fecking things to bits,Ive had to on more than one occasion
