Hi All
I've apparently decided I've got too much money and I've just put a deposit down on a 52 plate Discovery 2 TD5.
I've been lurking on this forum for a few days and now I'm frightened. Will the thing ever work?
I had a Freelander. that my wife and really liked, but it got totalled by a Mercedes. (obviously, it was all his fault! The court didn't agree - 50-50 in the end).
So, got the massive big brother of the Freelander coming in the next week - having an MOT and fixing an oil leak.
We'll see what the next few months bring.
Oh yes, I have to drive to Devon from Lincolnshire 2 days after it arrives, so no pressure.

Did you give the chassis a really good prod and tap with a hammer? Especially around the back?

Check the fluids - diffs, transfer case, gearbox as well as the engine... grease gun as others have said, there are prop shafts, balljoints perhaps....

And have fun.

Check your fluids! And get the grease gun out :D
I love my disco td5 good choice :)
Yep! reading the forums, it looks like I'll spend the whole 2 days between getting it and setting off for Devon checking and topping up every orifice in sight!
"I love my disco td5 good choice" thanks for the encouragement :)

The rear end of the chassis is looking like it might need work soon, but I'm relying on the dealer doing a kosher MOT. ( I'm very trusting like that!)

Welcome to the Looneyzone,

As you are getting it from a dealer,

Then maybe a read of this ( the purchase attachment) , before you pick it up, just in case there are any surprises hidden there.

Nice motors the D2,

Thanks Neilly

I had already used your buying guide before going to see the Disco - very useful! There are a couple of points that your guide threw up, but I'll deal with them in due course (get a new spare key.... etc)
I've downloaded the RAVE manual from your link. I knew I had seen it somewhere, but couldn't find it again, so thanks again. Having looked at the manual, all I can say is... at least its not a V8!

Grease gun? I've not used a grease gun since the old queen was alive!

Welcome to landy ownership..........old school, it certainly can be. Do not miss the grub screw on the front prop that requires a grease nipple to be fitted.

Cheers
