I've just had the following Mercs as company cars

GLC coupe AMG prem plus 2.2
GLC coupe AMG prem plus 2.5
GLC 2.2
C class convertible ( ffs )
CLS shooting brake 350
C AMG estate

Paid far to much tax, I now own two LR out of my car allowance ha ha so I need them to work for me, five days ago I was contemplating 120K+ RR and RR sports

I nearly went all out and got an evoque ( too small )

Yes i've always had a soft spot for LR and I think we are all aware of the reliability so im on a prevention mission now ha

It suits my lifestyle as a 2.4 children plus Doberman owner and a unit rugby playing son

Only merc I’ve driven was on a test drive and that was the G wagon, didnt think much of it ,like many of us had landies 30 plus years , D3 is my favourite so far

what ever u do don’t mention the ejoke , lol

also a dobe owner! Enjoy your new motor

11 years old is impressive. I opted out of company car and went for car allowance. Had own German car for while but lost so much in depreciation and wanted a truck for the dog/tools/fishing etc. If the man above confirms the engine query I think I’ll switch later in the year. Hilux is bulletproof but sometimes I spend 6-7 hours a day in it and that’s a bit draining in a pickup

is that the cause of the crank issues you hear of? I.e with prep maintenance engine failure is highly unlikely? Don’t mean to hijack but know your the man in the know!! I bought a hilux over a d3 due to fear of engine failure and the fact I thought I’d do more miles. When my d1 is done I would like a d3 for my commuter, especially as I’d be able to get one and have change with hilux value.

hiya

main issue is the crankshaft shells spinning , blocking off the oil ways and leading to the crank snapping

the actual percentage of snapped cranks is very low considering the amount on the road

alas heard of crank issues from 2005 right up to late D4s and sports

there doesn’t seem to be any precaution to prevent them from going , I often wonder if it’s because the engines have been remapped badly , as some that have gone the owners have ensured the discos haven’t wanted for anything

also snapped from as low as 20k and many dealers in the uk aren’t interested

there is now a new upgraded aftermarket oil pump recently released and on the D3/4 forums are beginning to test them to see what results come back, it produces a higher oil output , whether it works is too early to tell

Personally the D3 is a really nice landy to drive , favourite so far and would have another one

Yeah I hear you, its one of them we were shovelling serious amounts of rugby mud out of all the mercs over the past years then one of them suffered a catastrophic electrical issue I was thinking this is costing a serious amount of P11D and tbh she ( the boss ) wanted the pound notes to work for us.

I opted out and now work pay, I am lucky that I get a fuel card. The Freelander I was using £70 a week diesel in commuting, the disco seems to be returning a decent mpg, I put in £70 Sunday in Wakefield I got between 3/4 and full tank from nearly nowt then i drove back to Cheshire and commuted each day ( Mon - Wed ) to Stafford and I still have 1/4 tank. tomorrow I am taking her Freelander to Bristol as we've had a lot of work done on it to make it reliable. I haven't had it above 65mph on the M6 then she drove it tonight and was like come on then lets see what it can do ha ha ha she was then banned from driving it ha ha

I also have a D3, and 2 Dobbie’s,
I’m sensing a theme here.
