I have just aquired a 53 plate Discovery 2 TD5. Got a good deal on it as it has a couple of things I need to sort out. One of the problems is an oil leak that looks like it's been left to fester for ages, so there's quite a bit of oil n crud down the back of the engine that's blown over the gearbox and undertray etc.

One thing I've found is the front camshaft seal was pretty much just loose in it's hole, so there's a load of oil around that. The other leak that I can see is on the turbo bottom pipe, so there's oil n crud down that side of the engine and over the oil filter.
Are these common leak points ? I've ordered the cam seals, I guess the back is probably loose too. Is the turbo bottom pipe a gasket or O ring or what ??

Also drained and replaced the front and rear axles and transfer box oil...found a problem but will start a new thread on that.

Thx

Hi Mat,
The front cam seal is well known leak but easy to fix. The rear leak is usually the 1/2 moon on the rocker cover gasket. Best thing is to give everywhere a good clean - this will help to show up exactly where it's comming from.

Yes I'm off the the local jet wash this afternoon with 2L of deagreaser and a paint brush. I've ordered the can seal and a cam cover gasket, It has a small coolant leak somewhere near the bottom right hand side of the rad, under the air con compressor that I need to look at. As you say get it clean first.

Thx
