Just seen this new photo of the defender without a disguise. I've grabbed from Instagram with the blurb about it.

Here’s hoping the production car is less ugly, not that there’s a chance in hell of me ever affording one anyway :D

I like the way Suzuki have taken the opportunity to change the Jimny in to a mini defender look a like. They make me smile when I see them in the road. I like them. :)
If I was going for a new car, I'd go for a Jimny. Test drove one, it just felt like I was driving a more comfortable Ninety 2.5 petrol.
This new "Defender", just looks like a Disco with a more van like body. Not my cup of tea at all.

Front wheel arches look like they'll be torn to pieces easily enough and then replace the entire wing....

I like the checkerplate and winch. They must have just googled some pnp images.

Just saw this and tbh it’s way better than the mock ups that have been being driven around however it’s still pretty disappointing. With such big boots to fill I was hoping that landrover with their sort of design budget would have been able to muster something with a bit more than a faint resemblance to the old defender. I think the designers rather cheaply have decided to include things like quarterlights while completely disregarding thing which are far more important to a defender such as utility and simplicity. Feel like a cheap rip off not an improvement.

The whole thing stinks in the same way that Sports direct buying up historically successful sporting brands, and manufacturing products in Korea to very low standards, and then selling them with a logo on as a deceitful ploy. An example of this is Karrimor, which used to be a reputable outdoor make, but nowadays is a rip off with nothing more than the logo in common with the brand of old.

I agree that it basically looks like a d3 with curvier edges and no doubt more features. I don’t think it will turn heads, or sell to many typical defender owners. In fact it will just give middle class housewives another option to choose from, and I’m sure in time the word defender will lose its connotations of desert exploration, military prowess, and agricultural utility, and will instead just become another bland name on list of boring cars for boring people.

They bought brands that were once leaders but no longer such as Lilywhites and others just to own the brand name and make and sell cheap...

And go bankrupt?
Why would they go bankrupt? One model out of the whole range is hardly going to kill the company. The simple fact is that they have alienated a huge chunk of their customer base, the success of the Jimny shows that. If a company can come up with a genuine utility 4x4, not the Hilux because it's not utility vehicle, it's just another crew cab, then that company will take the worldwide customer base for a true utility 4x4.

Looks like a more hardcore version of a Range Rover, with a winch.
Too much over the Range-Rover / Disco side for me, but maybe it'll change a bit yet?

Suzuki have got it right with the jimny.
Jeep stay true to their roots with the wrangler. Merc still produce the g wagon. Toyota have done a great job with the fj cruiser. While landrover is just chucking out one SUV clone after another.

Its eggspected the launch date will be this tuesday 10th if sept 19 at the motor show. Still not confirmed by lr but they're eggspected to as its said its going to be there.
