Hello everyone,

Having recently bought a defender 110 Station Wagon and being very new to the world of Land Rover I have a few questions / stags and it would be interesting to know if these are common problems and if so, the best way to fix.

It's a 1994 110 TD5.

  1. The steering wheel sqeaks when turning as it touches the plastic housing.
  2. The locks are crap, you don't need a key to open them.
  3. Is there any websites / books that show green lanes?
  4. The steering wheel is mis-aligned so when driving in a straight line the wheel is turning left.
Thank you all - any help is appreciated.

Jon

fire a squazz of WD40 onto he back of the wheel. This should stop the squeak.

Locks - Mebbe look at getting some new old ones.

There are a few threads here and elsewhere that give you pointers on green lanes. Loads of websites too.

Make sure the wheels are dead ahead, take off the s / wheel, and put it back on straight. Taking the wheel off and putting it back on again might fix your squeak.

Turn the radio up, the noise will soon stop ! Leave the doors open, that way you don't get your windows and locks broken. Welcome to the world of Land Rovers

Well spotted, 94 TDI :)
Thought as much. Have you checked your PAS fluid levels? It could be the pump squealing lock to lock. plenty of bods on here go out laning and that so check others locations in the greenlaning section.:)

i had a squeaky steering wheel i took out one of the screws from the housing and it cured it, very easy to straighten the steerin wheel but leave the bolt on a few theads when trying to pull off or you will get a sore face a quick spray of wd40 on te bolt before hand will help.
all the locks are shi*e saves you getting locked out

with the steering wheel not pointing straight, check the tracking is ok as mine was a bit out on the disco which caused the steering wheel to not be in the centre. Then again after a greenlaning session it returned. Think about it, it varied quite a bit!!
