Hi all am new on here so go easy... i have just bought a 1989 defender 90 200tdi its the first landy i have ever owned and its great. needs steering box reaplced which is not a problam (its badly leaking oil and lot of free play). am i right in saying that the way to tell your kind is that the number of bolts on the top of the steering box. next query when you lift off of the throttle sharply the back end wants the sway becomes unstable you realy need to get ready with the steering to get her stright again. i think its a suspension bush on the rear causing the back end to steer (even my oval racer is'int as bad as this) but i dont know where to start, tryed my heal under ball joints but no lift. or would it be the fact that there a huge insa turbo mud nobbles on all four wheels. or its just that the steering box is so worn that its cause all over unstableness. any ideas would be aprecated

Yer back end wobble might be the tyres, but it wouldn't hurt to check yer rear bearings anaw;)

with a big set of muds its defo good to get the right amount of air in for on the road as there can be quite alot of movement in the sidewalls ie feels like a flat...but yeah like buster says.....lift it up and give it all a good wiggle

thanks folks can you recomend tyre press the tyres are insa turbo specail track 235 75 16 (on moduler rims??????) all rotations are corect for each wheel. i did also think of buying some tyres more suited for road use to use on the road i plan on doing up the landy a wee bit and gona try do some off roading so would like to keep these tyres for muddy fun because all for are next to new.

kyle i just managed to get 5 bf all terrains for 70 quid! its deffo worth it mate as im wearing down my bf mud terrains on the road and ive been quoted like 130 per tyre at trade price

1989? Ain't a defender then mate. Just to save confusion for you. Shame it hasn't got it's original engine but the 200tdi is good. Enjoy it!
