Brushbox bushing failure:
EAS_brushbox_fail.jpg

This failure is common to all EAS compressor pumps used in Range Rover from 1993 to 2002. It causes damage to the solder joints for the thermal breaker (black box near top of view) and poor support of the armature.
Symptoms are 'short cycling:' pump runs a few seconds and then stops, runs, stops, runs, stops, erratically. It also results in overheating, poor performance, and noise.

Yes i can understand that. The armature flopping around like whippets dick would cause a problem. But that does not seem to be the cause of this thing that DATA reports. In the normal course of events if the pump was called to run, then the failure above would cause spasmodic operation. But what is causing DATAs pump to run when the airtank is full and no more air can be pumped into it, if the pressure sensor is working isolating the power supply. This he says only happens with the bonnet open. I have repaired my bonnet switch. Just needed plugging in. Some idle sod had left it disconected. My pump does not run every 30 seconds. Mine is a 1999 DSE. Unless there was some mod done to the year 2000 on model, i am at a loss to know what is causing this. I think DATA and his mate may have a problem.
