having done quite a search I have found nowt that fits the problem. so.

having fitted a new clutch in our discovery 1 300tdi. I now find I have a vibration that comes in at certain revs. I e , mid range and it's driving me flippin nuts. it never happened before I changed it so I am assuming somat is amiss after doing so. but what it is I just don't know. any advice would be greatly appreciated. many thanks in advance.

new props and doughnut. it comes in even if the car is stationary which I forgot to mention.(sorry:confused:)

is your downpipe touching/close to chassis ?


one of the first things I checked but will have another good look in the morning.

someone has suggested ( a land rover spares place local to me) that it might well be the new clutch out of balance. well, I have fitted more clutches than I care to think about so has anyone come across this one??it's driving me up the bloody pole :D:D:D
 
how did the job go ? ,ive had them when they just wont line up for love nor money , ie ended up forcing them in , and busting the friction plate , ive used longer bolts to force the box and lump together and got away with it , but not every time .
 
Did you miss a bolt on the plate? Would cause it to go out of balance. Same if a piece of the drive plate sheared off causing an imbalance?

the job went very easy. gearbox went in with no problems at all. which makes me think it could well be the pressure plate out of balance. the suggestion was made that if I turn the pressure plate 180 degrees it should solve it but I am going on hols on sunday so havn't got time to do it till I get back, so Lynda will have to put up with a bit of vibration all the way to sunny Norfolk.:eek::eek::eek:

no bolts left it tray when finished :Dso would assume not. will let you know when engine comes out after hols. many thanks for the quick replies lads'

Out of balance? I wouldn't be getting any advice off him. Clutch covers don't generally get balanced due to the low weight. Check the gearbox mounts etc first just in case. Can you see or hear anything from underneath with the engine running?
 
checked all mounts, engine and gear box. the only thing I havn't done yet is remove the engine and put another bloody clutch in.which is on the cards for when I get back from Norfolk. until then I will just have to put up with it. driving me up the bloody wall.it's enough to turn me to :beer2::beer2::beer2::beer2:

Did you check/change the spigot bearing? Possibly the cause allowing the input shaft to move around excessively

just got back from sunny Norfolk so been unable to reply.

took engine out today and will up date on it further tomorrow, many thanks for the replies and suggestions. have bought a new spigot bearing and will replace as a matter of course.

well, engine out. clutch and pressure plate removed,new one in. heavy duty release bearing and clutch fork. couldn't see out wrong with the old one I took out but thought sod it. might as well replace the whole lot again. spigot bush also changed, will be finishing off tomorrow so will see if I still have the vibration.:mad::mad::mad:

Hope you remembered to check the driven plate orientation........
Getrieberseite = gearbox side
(If you didn't already know of course :) )
 
yep!! got that bit sussed:D:D:D fitted a few clutches in me time but never had an issue like this one.

if it is out of balance it needs replacing not moving around
 
just replaced it with yet another new clutch kit and hey presto.

smooth as a landrover can be.will be taking the one I took out and back to the so called landrover specialist supplier and supply him with enough lubricant to shove it where the sun don't shine.:eek::eek::eek:. it would have been different if I had bought cheap but I never do.i always go for genuine or top quality and I have never had such a problem in the past. many thanks for the very helpful suggestions.
