Hi , Tried to replace the rear pads on my '95 axled defender 110 today but the pads are about 1/16th" too thick to go in . The pistons are fully back . They pads wont go in at all . Could I have got dodgy pads ? Thanks in advance , Gerry .

New pads are often a bit of a tight squeeze in the caliper. Especially getting them past the lip that sometimes develops around the edge of the disc. Manufacturers are sometimes a bit generous with the friction material. In the past I've sometimes had to take a skim off the surface of the pad with a grinder to get them in.

Pads should never be tight to get in. If you have the correct pads that is.

I think I've discovered the problem . There's a thinner pad STC1601 which has a total thickness of 14.5 mm . The ones I have are 17.5 - 18 mm . Apparently these go on later Defenders . A simple exchange at the motor factors should sort it .
