Hi guys,

Changed my shocks a few weeks back with Boge dampers and have to say I'm a little unimpressed with the ride. its more controlled in bends but good god its harsh over speed bumps and pot holes, a lot worse then the originals.

Are there different types of Boge dampers out there for the P38? Or cheap copies or something? I was led to believe these are the OEM shocks? I wasn't expecting a limo but was at least hoping it would ride better then the worn old ones!

Is there anything else I should check out which might be an issue? Have just ordered new rubber bushes for the radius arms and the drags links are new and the roll bar links all look spot on.

I put boges on my P38 about 3 years and 25K miles ago and at the time was less than impressed as I thought there would be a big improvement over the originals that had covered over 75K miles. But then I think P38's run much firmer and are far less comfy than Classics on OE springs and shocks anyway. I guess there's always a bit of a compromise to gain more body control, but I'd be interested to hear from people who run different shocks on there P38's and get a nice soft ride.
 
I have the same problem - harsh with new shocks especially over speed bumps on the down slope. Have had all bushes checked and checked again and during its service next week i will ask them to check again! Mines had new airbags, arb bushes and steering damper too but still harsh plus wheels and new tyres.

I've been playing a new game called OCD with tyre pressures to see if that helps and currently running 28F and 34R and it seems slightly better at that.
 
Good point, tyres and pressure make a difference to judderiness. i'm on a set of middle-hard compound all terrains by Yokohama and run 24F / 34R.

i used britpart shocks no complaits from me :cool:
 
I got them from a mate that deals with allmakes and britpart but they were in boge boxes and label as such on the shocks. I've got 18" Disco 3 wheels on and run the factory 28f 38r. Despite the back seeming high if I lower it the things all over the road!

I've got OEM rubber bushes for the radius arms but don't hold out much hope to be honest. Can anyone recommend a good soft damper for the P38 if I don't have any luck?
