I have a 2002 ES 1.8 5dr, (yes it has had a new head gasket) yesterday the remore central locking stopped working although the central locking still works, changed the battery, worked once then stopped, took it into a main dealer who charged me £132 for two new fobs, once home it again did not work, returned to dealer and it made a liar of me, however the SRS light came on, (now off) and once home again the RCL did not function, it seems to be an intermittent fault, and its doing my head in! Any ideas? Oh i did hit a pothole rather hard just prior to all this fun and games, the dealer tried to tell me not to bother, it goes back to them on Monday........

crash switch has been tripped, its mounted on the bulkhead on the passenger side and has a round rubber button on top, push to reset.

When this trips, it stops the central locking from working or if all the doors are locked, it unlocks them, this is to ensure the doors can be opened in an accident.

It should cut the fuel pump too but I've had cases of central locking faults and this has been the cause even though the engine still starts.

Thanks i did find it, and it did "click" when i pushed it, i just wondered how it makes(made hopefully!) the fault an intermittent one, i also hope i have not wasted 130 quid on two new fobs that i might not have needed! Thanks v much love your 'tina by the way, tremendous!

I don't know, its a weired one. Like I said though, I've seen it several times before and each time its fixed it so fingers crossed eh? The pothole you went over is what tripped it, it doesn't take much.

I've never heard of 2 fobs packing up though, if both fobs don't work then its usually a problem with the car and not the remote.

Thanks for your comment on my car!

Soapylad have you tried what I think landrover refer to as reprogramming the remote units by pressing the unlock button twice quite quickly when the car is unlocked, as this is supposed to re-align the remote units to the car settings again. I occasionally have to do this with mine and once done I leave it for about 10 minutes then it works fine.

The only time you should need to do that is when you've locked the car with one remote and unlocked it with the other, Or replaced the remote batteries.

Thanks for all your help, i DID unlock it with a second one, the car is going back to LR to see if they should have charged me £132!
