Hi there,am new to the forum and have got a 2001 TD5 auto. Is it normal for the drivers side of the front console (by cigar lighter) to get very hot? the passenger side doesn't. Hope someone can enlighten me.

No the stereo is way above in the dash. This is on the side and is really warm if you rest your leg against it.

The heating ducts for the rear run along each side of your console, so if you have got the heating turned up, they can get quite hot.

Thanks for the info, but this is happening even when the heater is set at LO, and only on the drivers side.

Depends what you mean by HOT?

You have the gearbox and the transfer box on the drivers side that's going to give a bit of heat off! Have you checked your gear oil levels?

Have checked the levels and they are fine. When I say hot I mean that if you were wearing shorts, you wouldn't want to keep your leg against it for more than a few seconds !!!

Looks like time to hoick it up on a ramp and have a good look around for hot gearbox oil pipes, exhaust bits, and generally make sure nothing hot under the floor pan is in trouble. If you find something, job done.

You don't mention hot SMELLS, so chances are it isn't serious - yet, maybe.

Find a fellow TD5 Auto owner and check if his does the same.

If not, remove the centre console - not too serious.

My bet goes with hot air from the heating system, possibly a duct pipe off somewhere, if it isn't from under the floor-pan.

My td5 auto does exactly the same. It is uncomfortable to rest your leg against it. I drive with the aircon on and blowing through the vents next to the legs so that the heat is reduced.

Must be some heat shield or something that was 'forgotten' on some friday afternoon cars!!!
