Hello everyone

just joined the forum today as always had a passion to own a Land Rover Defender 110 - seen one today in our garage (2003, 103,000 miles) and love it - seriously LOVE IT!!

just wanted some general advice, and sorry this is basic...

DO landies really go on forever and ever and ever as long as general upkeep and services etc maintained?
Anything we should be looking at specifically buying second hand?
Any other general advice / feedback or posts on this forum that we may find helpful?

We would really really really appreciate some beginners help in this - we have no experience and no-one else to ask....so you are the perfect people to ask!

and we can't wait to join the Landie world!!

Many thanks in advance

Nick

Welcome!

I've had one now for 6 months now.

Most say they do go on forever, but I've observed: if you service it religiously.

most servicing can be done by yourself if you have the practical knowhow, most of which can be found on here if you get a bit stuck (look in the buster bus guide section busters-photo-tour-landrover-repairs - Land Rover Zone)

Engine maintenance all depends on your engine: 200tdi/300tdi - serviceability good, reliability good, economy - so so. TD5: more economical (even better with ERG blanking kit fitted), servicability: not so much

I'm sure somebody will give you some pointer about what to look for when buying, like I say: I got an experienced mate of mine to look it over with me before I parted with cash.

good luck

:welcome: Nick. A landrover is a lot like a broom, will last forever, you just need to replace the stale or the brush every so often! Look after your defender and it will give you year upon year of enjoyment.
A 2003 model should be in pretty good order and the milage certainly is no problem, just run in!:D

DO NOT GET IT- once you start, you are addicted!!

i thought i could handle it at first, took an old disoc as part of a deal, since then i must have owned 10 in varying series, 110 van and crew cab, 90 truck, disco td5, disco 300tdi- as well as all the varying tricks for them!!

on a 2003 110 you wont go far wrong, always worth checking the chasis an bulkhead. TD5 is normally a good engine and with those miles hadly used.

hi all - well, we saw the land rover, we drove the land rover....dare i say it....we fell in love with the land rover and we bought the land rover...!!!! so a 2001 TD5 9-seater county in oslo blue.... never owned a land rover before, but know we're smitten!!! so, basic questions (sorry) - the snorkel exhaust - for river crossings, but how does it work??? and anything for keeping the exterior well polished etc??? thanks people!!!

^^^what she says^^^ :D Take the steps off before you bend them when your on lanes or off roading, because youll never get um off if you dont. Ask 110woman!

Got an expensive roof rack on it annorl. Looks good.

Nice one.

as hes after tips on how to keep it shiny then perhaps the side steps are safe.had to get the gas axe to the remains of mine

Looks good. Stay off the byways if you like it to shine. It will take a while for that smile to go and even then it will still be visible. You will wonder why you didn't get one before I know I did best vehicle I've owned :D
