If the original unit was Blaupunkt one of these http://www.incarconnections.co.uk/b...ith-cd-player-usb-mp3-aux-input-for-ipod.html might be plug and play... when my original radio-cassete player died long time ago i bought also Blaupunkt(as the original was) and didnt need any addapter, i can't vouch for the one in the link though cos it's much newer modell than what i fitted and mine was only Radio- CD without so much features...the gist is to get one from the same manufacturer as the original and it might be plug and play

Help! Anyone out there reccommend a compatible mp3 player for my 1999 disco? Radio died on me!

I'd have to agree with the previous two members.
One thing to remember is that you're very unlikely to get just an mp3 player to replace your non-working radio, you'll almost always have to purchase a replacement radio head unit which will also have your selection of inputs; USB, SD card, mp3 disk/CD player or Aux audio, depending upon specification built in.

I fitted a replacement unit specifically to get Bluetooth but I had to get an adaptor to un-amplify the unit since I was using the original cables which still went through the amp under the passenger seat. If you have the same setup then may be worth trying to find one where you can turn off the final amp stage in the head unit to avoid the extra cabling etc.

When I done mine I brought loads of cables /boxes that I didn't need,, ended up with one loom for the steering wheel remote and a rca to iso, sounds amazing with the HD amp and speakers

I got a neat little Pure DAB radio. Fitted straight into D2 plugs and just added a dab aierial that sticks on inside of windscreen. Links to iPhone for calls and Bluetooth + aux in and Ian for MP3. Fitted myself for less than £110 all in.

I apologise for not answering sooner , but I've been checking my emails rather than this forum! Thank you all so much for taking the time and offering so much info. My radio just says `Discovery'. Nn the front.Left top RDS EON.It just has a cassette and CD changer controller. Classicfans suggestion of the Pur DAB radio sounds very interesting to me, although me being Germany, I wouldn't have access to the beeb and especially radio 4.I've been getting that on LW.Not great, but better than nothing! I understand DAB signals will not transmit over seas! I also like the look of Tillytomp's Kenwood. Also many thanks to Brian47, for making it clear to me regarding the head needed to replace the radio.I was a little green on that and usually order something that I either don't need or I need something additional to make it work! Also Ryanday1, I didnt reailse just about any machine with work providing you have the right cables. One morre question, I would like to continue operationg what ever? from the steering wheel. That probably cuts down on what will be compatible? Thanks again.

I have ordered the Kenwood KDC-X7000.Now I need the korrect adaptor! The Kenwood cost more than I wanted to fork out but in comparison to others,it seems to be the one to have! I checked out the adaptor Tillytomp has but am a little concerned because the info says, from Discovery 2 April 2002 onwards.Mine is 1999! I have to be sure about this. Thanks again for the input! Appreciate it.

Thanks again Tillytomp for this additional help.I'm still waiting for the Kenwood to arrive.Should be around Wednesday/Thursday.I wanted to order the adaptor before so I don't have to wait so long getting it.
I'm checking out (once again) that adapter you mentioned. If I can be sure it fits my 1999 TD5 then I'll order it immediately. Thanks again.

Hi all, My Kenwood koc-7000dab radio just arrived and with it an adapter.I check out my 1999 Discovery td5 and low and behold, it fitted.I have spent countless hours finding out with adapter was suitable.I'm so pleased because DAB antenna is also included, so, nothing else needed! Over & out (for now!)
