Hi I'm new to the group I have a 1997 p38 with a starting problem I have to jump start it every day some times 2-4 times a day I had the battery and aulternater checked the battery was at 60% I think it was at 60% because I had to jump start it and left it running for about 20 minutes but they said they were good I had the starter motor sent to be reconditioned but the man said it was fine it's got a hot or cold start thing on it when I got it and I've replaced the glow plugs what could it be?? Any help would be great thank you

For a start either the alternator is not charging properly or the battery is knackered or a combination of both. What size battery is on it?

They said? Who's they?

With the engine running the alternator should show at the very least 13.8V at the battery with a voltmeter. If you only have 13.8V and you have a calcium battery then you'll have to give it a boost with a trickle charger every few months. If the voltage is OK then try taking the battery off and fully charging with a trickle charger and see if it can hold that charge overnight when not on the car.

Also, have a peek under the parcel shelf in the boot on the driver's side. Check the RF receiver is the 3rd generation receiver. A quick Google of P38 and RF receiver should bring up lots of links. If it isn't then you need BrianDSE's remote 12V switch trick.

The remote 12V switch trick works a treat!
Mine used to go flat every couple of days. Been on 6 months now and not gone flat once.
