I have foolishly snapped the key off in the ignition of my 1975 classic range rover, does anyone have any idea how to remove the barrel without totaling the whole column....many thanks BAZZA:mad:

remove the plastic cowl and on most cars(dont no a lot on rr) you can see the barrel clamp and top of shear off bolts either drill off head or a good punch, hammer and abit of time. you can unscrew it.

Get an 0-80 tap, appropriate tap drill, an 0-80 screw, and pin vises. Drill a hole into the fattest part of the end of the key. Tap the hole. Drive the screw into the hole. Grab the screw head with pliers, and pull the key out.

But that's just me.

i have had success with either mole grips on the heads of the shear bolts, or hacksawing slots in them, then using a screwdriver.

Sounds like a good idea. Is fiddly getting key out, but would save removing and fitting barrel.
I have only even seen it happen to a mate, he got lucky and was able to get to the end of the key with first the end of a flat fine jewelers screwdriver (not recommend if the screwdrivers were expensive), to lever out a bit, then smal needle nose pliers to pull out the rest.....he used plenty of WD40 first too.

Good luck with it mate

correct me if im wrong but doesn't key have to be in barrel for you to remove. If whole key in barrel and snapped at top end doesn't barrel tap out in set possition.Could be talking **** just finished vodka off lol
