Aye a new one of them is 75 quid. But I rang yet anuffer auto electricians who wunt sell me one, but reckoned he could fix me up with a recon one fer 35 quid.

This happened to me, the diode pack or regulator on the rear of the alternator is starting to fail. New (reconditioned) alternator from Auto stores in Malvern was £64 on an exchange basis. But you can replace just the regulator if the rest of the alternator is worth keeping.

i picked up a used replacement off ebay for £20. i also got a 100amp unit off ebay for £30 a while back :)

Are you sure that int the brushes gubbins. They say it's the diodes but on other sites they show a picture of the brushes for the same part number.
Dunno. I just did a quick search. Looks like these Paddockisms and Craddockisms is getting a wee bit to common.:(

innit funny how there's no mention of summat fer ages then spontaneously and independently 2 freds start showing the same problems! (least it ain ferkin vag oil this time!) :D

What you gotta do is tell him tesco's is doin it half price today only. When old greedy guts goes down to make his stock even bigger you can nip into his shed and nick his stash.:D

Yer see I did a search an revived an owld fred cos I had summat to add to it.

a regulator is £4.99. (Part no aeu3076)
a diode pack is £3.25 on craddocks (part no. stc130)

I ant looked but would be suprised if either of these were the diode pack (look further back on this fred fer Floppys link to a supplier), one of them could be the brush gubbins.
