Hi guys n gals,
Can anyone recommend a diagnostic tool that can test individual channels of the abs modulator unit ?
Budget up to 2 or 300 quid ////

I am struggling to find ANY real diagnostic OBD tools for the FL1 L series in reality. I realise it is semi proprietary.

I simply need to test the ABS unit - not just read codes. I am sure any unit that does this will provide all the other (limited) functions on the L series Diesel ECU and ABS ECU.

Many thanks to all
Joe

I thought the Hawkeye covered these .....it has the Wabco Modulator on the list when you plug in to do a reading.

My Icarsoft LR2 says it will do this on an L series. Unfortunately mines a TD4 so I cannot verify this.
If you wish to have a nice drive to Rotherham, shouldn't take to long from Portugal, we'll plug it in and find out!

I think ur right , I've got a hawkeye and also convinced it will cover all of the freelander 1 mode,s

Yep ..my Hawkeye covers 3 types ....the Wabco used on the earlier Freelander and the ATE MK20 and MK25 used on the approx. 2000 up FL1s

Current price £240 inc VAT from Island 4x4

Don't forget you will need Grey Adaptor for Hawkeye Diagnostic Tool - Discovery 1, Range Rover P38A, Freelander 1 - Bearmach BA5077 at £40 to access and read ABS.

Grey lead is only used for 01MY on ABS system (Teves system) so on an L series you won't need this lead for the Wabco ABS system

I can only confirm that on my FL1 Dec 2000 TD4 ..... 01MY with the ATE MK20 ABS system that the grey adaptor isn't needed.
After 01 I believe they went to the MK25

Hi all and thanks for the excellent and detailed replies.
I think it will have to be the Hawkeye for what I need (full functions plus abs actuator testing). I looked at the iCarsoft unit and as far as I can ascertain, it does not include the actual 'actuation' of the actuators (if that makes sense :) )
I suppose in the great scheme of things 240 quid is actually very good value (I managed to get a complete list of functions and it is very comprehensive)
Many thanks to all for the great info.
Joe
