Hello wonderful people of the Discovery section, need your assistance trying to work out what this horrible screeching sound is, coming from the front of the engine of a 1994 Disco 300 Tdi Auto.

The noise first occurred just after I'd done the head gasket (yesterday), and wasn't there previously. The head was off for around a week while I waited for parts.

If you spray some WD40 down onto the shiny pulley (tensioner?), the noise stops for a few seconds but builds again quite quickly.

My first thought was water pump - having just done the head gasket the coolant has been drained and re-filled, and I'm not sure if it is even flowing properly yet. Whether this is due to an airlock or not, I'm not sure.

Could the screech be related?

Aside from this screeching, the engine sounds and runs very well.
So can anyone help me identify this before I start randomly replacing bits? :D
