Hi guys,

Currently got my eye on a 03 plate Range Rover td6 hse 3.0 diesel with 180k miles on the clock. I haven't viewed it yet due to it being a good distance away from me, but the guy says its in decent condition and welcomes any inspection/error machine etc. Its just had new brakes, new tyres, intercooler upgrade pipes done last week, new gearbox and torque converter with the upgrade oil cooler and pipes, new turbo in 2013 and air compressor in 2014 and has all the receipts apparently.

He's looking for £6k but would prefer a direct swap for my 59 plate BMW 3 Series 318d.

I don't know a hell of a lot about cars, but it seems as though this guys spent a fair bit getting things replaced. Any opinions on whether or not I should go for it?

Just a bit intimidated as I have no *real reason to swap other than I just really want a Range Rover. My current car drives like a dream, not even as much as a scratch on it and returns 60-70mpg motorway and 50mpg city driving. Would just be a bit of a let down if I swapped it for something thats going to break down all the time.
 
It all depends on how well the 180,000 miler has been maintained. It looks like a lot has been done, but there will be a lot of wear on a 180,000 mile car.

RR ownership is always always going to cost more than 318 ownership, so if you haven't got the funds or skills to mend or replace things as they break then RR ownership is not for you.

Personally if you haven't got a good reason to buy one, like work, kids, towing a boat, unfathomable interest in British 4x4, then I'd stick with what you've got. It seems to suit you very well.

Sounds like it's about ready to have all the suspension bushes and airsprings etc replaced.

2010 Land Rover Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE 5dr CommandShift 64k miles at £26k, any good?

I'd be using the car primarily as a family car (dog space too), and I have a tendancy to go down silly (but fun) roads, so the 4x4 will definitely be utilized at some point in its life.

Currently due to a job change, funds will be a bit stretched for a while until my training is finished and I enter my new career, so hopefully nothing goes wrong within that time!

If you are on a budget and want reliable, what you do not want is a Range Rover:rolleyes:

You only have to look on these and other forums , the L322 diesel will give at least half the fuel economy of your BMW and the L322 will keep you under it or on here trying to fix it , the sport will be ok for a while - probably but they are starting to show up here but any Range Rover you buy will need TLC and servicing and if you spend every last penny you own buying one, be prepared to spend some time looking at it stranded on your drive longing for it to work.
