Last thread today I promise...!

I have a 2001 vogue that appears to have had a factory fit Mk3 system. Its got the usual 4 buttons and knob screen and a Mk3 CD navigation computer in the boot.

On purchase the whole system was dead, I popped the computer out and found it was totally disconnected at the rear. I plugged the connectors back in again and turn on the ignition to be faced with the white screen and a colour "splodge".

The navigation computer had started up but began to eject and then load the disk repeatedly, the screen did flicker once or twice but basically stayed white with the colour splodge.

So it looks like the computer has a corrupt memory, and the screen has got a large fault on the display. (I'm assuming it should be totally white if the computer is dead)

The nav computer is Part No is YIB000110, just to confirm its a Mk3, on the back where the connectors are there is a little sticker which says CON MK3/BMW.

Can I just buy any old MK3 BMW satnav and plug it in and load the original 2001 disk I have rescued from the unit? Or am I best sending mine away for repair? With the screen should I replace this or wait for a working computer just to be sure that the screen does have a fault?

Collins Road Map is your answer.:D Sorry I'll get my coat. Saint will able to tell you , think he recommends the later version.

I know I know I just hate having stuff that doesn't work. It really winds me up! I suppose I should get used to it but just trying to get options weighed up.

I would love to go to a mk4 unit but I can't with the low resolution screen in a p38.

It would be nice to be able to just buy a standard mk3 nav for quite cheap. I might try it and can always sell it on if it's a problem!

OK so to update this, I did actually buy a BMW MK3 navigation computer that was known to be working and installed that. It works OK, as it had the BMW firmware the screen gave me several options which of course are not fitted to a range rover, and after a certain amount of time the SET function becomes grayed out but the navigation worked. It was working with the original land rover map disk from 2001 which was a bit tired. Spurred on by this I decided to find a more cost effective way of getting my original navigation computer repaired and I eventually found a company in Romania who offer a repair service for £50 plus the postage, far better than the prices I found in the UK.

I contacted them about repairing the Mk3 from my Range Rover and they responded quickly and offered a no fix no fee repair and all I would have to pay was the postage, I figured whats the risk so sent it of. They had the unit for just 24 hours and concluded they had repaired it and reloaded the range rover firmware (although I have to say I THINK its from an L322, but nevermind). It arrived back today and I've fitted it and it works perfectly, far quicker than other unit. So including postage the repair has cost me about £70 including a new map disk.
Result.:)

I think my unit is the same as yours. Having trouble with it at the moment, well, since i put the engine back together as it seems to think it's 27 miles away in Doncaster???? Does it ever end!!

No! haha, I went and shoved £80 in mine today, customer cancelled a job today (well I cancelled as they hadn't booked it in at their end properly), they are amazingly free tomorrow but my van is booked in for a service so I'll use my own car and claim mileage just typical I've filled up the rangie and not the 650i (which is empty as to be expected) so do I spend another £70 filling that up or earn less from the mileage and use the rangie lol
