Just bought myself a Sankey Rapier Missle trailer but it in the UK and I am in Ireland. Going over to the UK to pick it up next week but need to fit the NATO hitch to the back of the Disco 2 first. What hight should the NATO hitch be fitted at?

Has anyone here got a Sankey 1 ton Rapier trailer, is the anything I should know, anything to look out for?

ALOT higher than you can get it and keep it legal

Put it this way my 90 on 37 inch tyres and 2 to 3 inch lift a sankey sits dead level on 650 size tyres. My dads disco 1 its pathetic Nose down stupidly and that high as possible before the tow hitch fouls the rear door which is Way higher than a std Disco tow ball/hitch was ever designed to go and Way more than a Disco 2! Disco 2 you are limited as tow regulations mean you cannot just modify it it has to be marked as from X year which I believe all Disco 2's are

The trailer is not a 3/4ton Sankey it's a Rapier Missile support trailer that has adjustable ride hight. I don't mind if I can't open the back door and not to worried about the weight the hitch can carry as the trailer can only carry 1 ton and I'm sure I can engineer something that will more than carry the load.

As I said the trailer has hight adjustment but as I don't have the trailer here I can't work out the height for the hitch, at a guess I take it will need to be about 26" to the centre of the hitch. The Disco has a 20mm lift on HD springs so 26" to centre will bring the hitch just below the spare but will stop me opening the back door.

I was asking here on the off chance that someone in the forum might have the same trailer and could give me some advice.
 
The adjustable ride hight was only for transport when empty so they could be stacked in a chinook you may find it's seized up anyway all the best
you need the measurement off a landy 110 to centre of crossmember
for ride height :):):)

I live in Africa and drive a 1995 Pinzgauer 716. I need a strong offroad trailer to carry a quad bike, or else large loads of rocks, gravel or firewood. Do you think your Rapier trailer would be up to that? Any ideas where I can buy one? Withams don't have any.

YRM now make a nato hitch plate for a D1 it's basically a U channel that bolts to the Chassis crossmember.

They had 1 on display at newbury last weekend.

As far as I can remember hieght was never a issue the miltary ever dealt with as all NATO trailers had a A bar on pivots and the vehicle hitch had six, if I remember slots to pick from, mind you that was back in the 80's has your trailer got a pivoting A bar

Most road-going trailers, Sankey, Rapier, etc..., have fixed A-Frames.

I remember seeing some specialist trailers - lubricant servicing trailers and car recovery trailers with hinged A-Frames, so that they could be towed by either Land Rovers or Bedfords.


What you're describing sounds like ammunition/missile trolleys and airfield tugs.
