Hello tim3, I think applying the paint is a matter of personal prefference. My series 2 I painted by hand after rubbing it down (wet) with some fine grade wet and dry paper. As for a supply of paint try these people Anchor Supplies www.anchorsupplies.com they sell it.

My III's handpainted too & except for (really) close up it looks pretty good even in semi gloss. If I did go the whole filler, perfect finish, spray route I think I'd be too precious about it to use it properly.
If your going matt or semi-satin it does make it really easy to re-touch (if as I've said elsewhere!) you can be ars*d!

Yeah I quite agree Marcus, my Series 2 is hand painted gloss black and it looks quite presentable apart from footprints belonging to our big fat bone idle freeloading cat (norman). He thought it would be a good idea to walk across me Landy while the paint was still tacky (the git). Anyway a showroom type finish isn't important when all you use it for is mud n lanes.

I have heard that nato green military paint can have toxic ingredients, does anyone know about this
Yes, if you drink it only have slammers.Pints are bad for you.
Yes that's why you can't actually buy the proper NATO paint anymore, the stuff you see are other peoples copies. You can get the original stuff from 1 or 2 suppliers but it is expensive compared to them. Anchor Supplies sell it in 5 litres tins, should be enough to paint it several times over!

As for toxic yes as it contains lead, something to do with reduceing the infra red signature.
I use a small foam roller and a small brush for the tricky bits and it comes up quite good on average using a foam roller I can paint my landy with a couple of pints of green and black.
