Hi chaps,

I'm thinking it might be time to make this investment, since I have the Hevac book icon, and break alert lights to sort out.

Could someone direct me to/provide me with, a list of everything the Nanocom can do for the P38?
Where is the best place to purchase one? I checked Island4x4 but couldn't find anything..
Finally, is the Nanocom the best option, or is one of the others a better choice?

PS. How much does an ordinary dealer charge for a diagnostics check?

I thought there could be newer versions or similar, and I didn't want to hijack an old threat for my other questions.

I did find this:

Range Rover P38 ABS (Wabc C and Wabco D)

Range Rover P38 Autobox (2.38 and 8.87)

Range Rover P38 Cruise Control

But I don't know what the first 3 mean!

No worries. I've just got a bee in my bonnet at the moment due to the 632,315 threads that have been started recently ref I want an L322 what should I be aware of. I'll be alright when the moon changes phases ;)

First 3 are the different types of engine.

GEMS= pre 99
EDC=diesel
MOTORTRONIC = THOR post 99.

I was also looking at the nanocom but also the Hawkeye.
Seem similar price.
However the nanocom is a particular engine system (gems, edc, motronic) so you are stuck with that and have to pay for an £50 upgrade to the other engines if you change P38. The hawkeye does all the p38 range; it also does new models L322 etc but with a £200 upgrade nanocom does not do new models.
Nanocom also seems to do a litte more than the Hawkeye, eg, can update the code in one of the boxes just in case you change it.

Choice seems to depend on how long you stick with p38's. If a long time then Nanocom but if you plan on changing to the newer models then maybe Hawkeye. Although I am sure there is a good secondhand value if you need to sell on the Nanocom.

I'm erring toward the Nanocom. Does anyone know if it does the EAS with the lead that comes with it or does it need a different lead?

Nanocom does everything! No need for additional leads, laptops, cables, or any other ****. And also does more than the hawkeye.

If you go for a later model afterwards, you should only really be looking at the faultmate extreme. But that's about a grand. Dont faff about thinking that the cheaper option is the best. Do a search on Nanocom here and you will see how many range rover p38 owners actually have one.

It's a no brainer.
 
Nanocom it is then - my birthday soon, hey wifey get saving the house keeping :D

I have the free EAS software so calibrating is possible with that (even if its a PITA with the cable laptop etc) however I can't get rid of the 30MPH speed limit warning, luckily the RR does go faster and the warning beep is barely audible.
I expect to find a list of faults as long as me arm when I get it.

Perhaps someone with experience of both could advise.
Also wondering if the Nanocom has the option to plug into a laptop, in case the screen gets smashed.

What would happen if your laptop got damaged?.
Nanocom is a robust little unit, fail to see with proper handling how the screen would smash.
I carry mine around in the glove box and havr had no problems
