I am planning a trip from Windhoek (Namibia)- Dar Es Salem (Tanzania) towards the end of the year, not exactly sure about dates still need to see with work but most likely end of Ocotber- end Dec or thereabouts.

I don't have a route in the pipeline other than I want to see the northern Mozambican coast line. I haven't visited Zambia but the rest of the countries in that region I know relatively well having visited then on numerous occasions.

Ideally looking for another vehicle to travel along with me alternatively a travel companion (male or female) that is easy going fun to get on with and who is happy to share expenses. Mail me for more info.

BTW its a Defender 300Tdi fully kitted out and ready for the trip, been travelling for the last 3 years and now my travel partner (girlfriend) has left I would like to find someone to join me

I used to live in Zambia, and would definitely recommend taking your time to see as much as possible.
I lived in Mbala in the north... and used to go down to a tiny lodge/campsite on the beach of Lake Tanganyika near Mpulungu - you can put your car on the ferry there... or cut through to the Tanzanian border.
I few of us got together and toured the waterfalls in the north, totally on our own, stunning waterfalls, well off the beaten track, so best to buddy up with another traveler - check out the Thorntree Lodge in Kasama, they will help with the planning - assuming they are still there!
Let me know if you want any more pointers... I love that part of Africa, just wish I could get the time off... roll on retirement!!

Enjoy...

I did Botswana (Maun) to Kenya (Nairobi) about 4 years ago. Amazing Trip. I'd love to come with you if only I could!

Let us know your route when you decide - make sure that you take advantage of some of the safari options that most tourists dont, they are gems.

Good luck and keep us up to date.

Hi don't have a Defender yet but your trip sounds fab, And best time for weather too, I've been to Windhoek & Namibia & then onto Salt pans of Etosha & it's amazing! Lots of Landys out there & all the safari's we went on were in Defenders too! Have fun x

Depending on when you decide on going I will possibly be interested in coming along. will take my own vehicle so added recovery. all depends on dates as I'm off to Morocco on the 22nd of october for three weeks.

Regards,

Glenn

Hello, where are you now? I've just come back on here after a long time, but I've been looking into shipping from the UK to Walvis Bay very soon I have a quote for carnet for southern Africa including Kenya for a year and a quote for shipping, I have family in Windhoek and friends in Cape Town. sadly my companion and travel companion walked away in January so its put me back a bit. I was going to travel down through Africa all the way but Egypt is far too expensive with the carnet. and I now have no one to go with. I have built a fully equipped 110 completely rebuilt from ground up over the past years for this trip of a life time, but now feel shipping to Namibia the best option. I'm in Suffolk near Ipswich. and would like to spend Christmas in southern Africa. Let me know your views and thoughts please.
