Hi all!
I'm new here, but have used this site many-a-time for help and advice. Unfortunately have an issue that has got me stumped.
Mines a 2005 Td4 SE, 68k, and since driving through some standing water last week, (not that deep), its making a new noise...
I have been doing a few of the searches on various forums, and i am starting to worry that ££££ will be on the horizon!
It sounds like it is coming from the front passenger side, a constant metallic droning, not when idling, but starts from pulling away, up to 30/40mph when it fades slightly. the only time it stops is when cornering with a little speed and sharply.
My first thought was wheel or VCU bearing, but on reading some posts started to worry about the VCU itself. I know that Landy updated the drivetrain, and this issue is less prevalent on the facelift - but does it still occur?
I don't get any knocking or banging on steering from the IRD, she drives lovely, and I have tried this evening pulling away in reverse on lock, and she doesn't feel tight at all. The IRD was however hot-to-touch this evening after the drive back from work, roughly 5 miles, not more than 40mph.
I have worn scorpions on the front, and brand new General UHP's on the back. The clutch/flywheel was done in May and IRD fluids replaced.
It's being looked at on Friday at a friend's garage, so I guess I'm hoping someone could allieviate the worry!
Thank you in advance
Andy
