Now I have your attention(perverts lol) need some advice, My 97 auto 300tdi es with 176,000 on the clock is a bit reluctant to start when cold,When its hot will fire on first turn. From what I have read on here is it more likely to be a battery/glow plug prob, The reason I ask is today a "Landrover expert" told me that on auto 300tdi's it is quite likely to be the computer?? playing up on the fuel gizzmo thingy(as you can tell I am a techie type) so any advice (apart from torching the car ect) would be marvelous, Also there is a bit of play in the steering while driving, you know you go to turn left and the steering follws in its own time(only about 3 inches of travel or so lol)what needs replacing/tightening/hitting??, Thanks in advance oh and heres the link to the bird

Sounds like glow plugs. Steering on mine was like that from new. Dealer said it was "within normal limits for a Landrover".

Re the starting problem, as others have said it might be glowplugs but it can often be caused by a poor quality earth. This results in the starter motor, when cold, not turning the engine over quickly enough for it to fire. Check the earth connections from the battery to the chassis/engine and from the starter motor to the chassis.

The "Land Rover expert" is talking cock.

Thanks for that, I will have a nose this weekend weather permitting, I thought he might have been talking crap, Business is probably a bit slow lol
