Hi defender 90 300tdi , I have oil contamination on the inside of the rear brake disc and dripped onto the wheel/tyre . Is this the hub seal leaking or the stub axle seal ??? .
Any help would be great before I go and rip it apart , carefully

Stub axle seal is the hub seal ;)

Yes but no but...
If the hub (with the disc bolted to it) is removed , 2 large nuts and the locking washer gets that off, on the rear of that is an oil seal, stops dirt getting into the wheel bearing and grease getting out.
If the stub axle is removed from the axle casing, 6 bolts and some nuts (on a 110 anyway) there is another oil seal on the back of that , this stops oil from the diff getting any further than that. Between the stub axle and axle casing flanges there is a paper gasket.
I would buy both seals and the paper gasket plus a new lock tab washer. Clean out the bearings and re grease if they are ok.
Job jobbed.:)

magic , all seals and gaskets ordered along with new bearings , in fact stubs + discs whilst its stripped .
But i did think of leaving the stubs alone if they looked ok , But sounds like its the seal behind the stub that's causing the leak , That is what i needed to know .
Glad you told me otherwise i would of been doing it all again . :)
