Hi all.....normally in the world of range rovers but step daughter has bought very nice freelander with a coolant leak that ends up at the rear of sump tray but can't see where it starts.

Is there a common leak that i should look for as all pipes appear sealed and dry.
The manifold is blowing slightly, apart from that seems good.

Any suggestions (apart from burn it as i like it too!)

Hi, what engine has the hippo got?
There is lots of possibilities, you need to remove the tray and have a good look see.
Heater pipework, IRD cooler pipework, core plugs, oil cooler, EGR cooler, just to name a few!
The leak could be tracking from elsewhere even the resevoir or thermostat, be methodical and happy leak hunting!

i had to have the HG done on mine but still lost a little coolant.water pump was then done and all hoses checked but nout found.so went to local car spares and got a bottle of K series radiator seal. worked wonders had to check water levels for about 300 miles then .the coolant stayed put no movement on the res bottle.hope this helps..

Cheers for that......tis the one i said not to buy (2000 1.8 Petrol ahh well).
I shall pop tray off as soon as it comes back. It isn't a massive leak but it's coming from somewhere and my ex p38 had a miniscule leak which killed the engine so don't want to go there again.

Get it up on axle stands , under tray off and with engine running CAREFULLY use blue paper roll to check each and every part of the cooling system and ancillery connections and all around engine.
The blue roll goes darker when wet thus identifying source if external .
