I have recently removed the fly wheel and rear cover etc so i could replace seals and also paint the block on my defender 200tdi engine 1992

when I removed the fly wheel I noticed this part was loose at the bottom of the flywheel housing

Can anybody help to identify what it is or where it goes

I couldn't blow the pics up sufficiently to really make it out, but it looks very much like a flywheel balance weight.

No doubt someone with better eyesight than me will correct me if I'm wrong.

Guess that would make sense
but where do you fit the bugger

right had a good look tonight I have no idea where it fits or where it has come from
can anyone help or advise as i need to get the flywheel etc put back on

its not anything i recognise from a tdi

I looked at all the parts I removed and there is nothing that the part would fit into, its just the wrong size
And there is no marks on anything that would suggest where the part is located

surely any balance weight would have come from an auto flexy plate,
does the op have a manual or auto ?

looks like half a split washer to me, but struggling to compare the size with anything else.
bigger pictures needed!

I have checked all the parts removed and nothing has a mark or looks to have a part missing that could possibly be this part
All I can think is it was something dropped in there

thank you all
I have just finished putting the painted rear cover on and refitted the flywheel
oh and before you as new spigot bush and seal was also fitted
:)
