Probably a stupid question but....

Hi All, My TD5 90 heater direction cable snapped but right at the end where the dash control is so managed to reconnect it. Seems to work fine now and direct air up and down on both sides of the cabin. A mystery though - when looking at the heater unit in the engine bay - the heater on/off is obviously the cable on the top and one can see this move when the lever is raised and lowered.

The cable on the left of the heater unit though - tucked away neatly. What is this? I thought it may be the 'flap' for the heater directional lever on the passenger side, but when moving this heater direction level, this cable does not move. Yet, per the above the air direction changes fine now the cable is reconnected.

Not critical but just wondering what that cable is?
thanks for those in the know,
regards

Hi
Just had my dash out and heater box out 1986 90 defender.

Mine sounds similar to yours.

You have heater cable to top of box, the directional lever runs behind dash and does windscreen or feet etc.

The othe flap on heater box is connected to the fan lever.
Believe if you operate that it will move a flap in heater box to alloe heat to flow.

Try moving fan lever with a friend watching the heater box end.

Good luck if you have to put a new direction cable in, fear it maybe a mission to remove half the dash

Good luck
