Well finally my Rangie was ready for collection, and I have to admit to being daunted by the 35 mile trip home, but we made it...:)

That 35 miles confirmed to me what you guys have been saying here on the forums, the DSE 2.5 Diesel is underpowered.

Being female, Im used to getting in the Drivers seat and never getting my hands dirty, and that isnt going to change any time soon...lol

But I have read the posts on chipping and I wondered if that would be the answer to this automatic, who frankly seems to struggle from standstill.

She revs at 800 rpm on idle, which appears about right.

But through the auto box in the first two gears, I feel like a tortoise racing with the hares to try and get myself around a roundabout.

Your guidance would be appreciated..

Mind you, other than that......I ADORE HER !
 
Yeah, get it chipped ASAP

And in the meantime don't be anyway shy with the loud pedal. You really need to floor it to get them moving but it will always be glacial slow when cold.

Did mine 2 days after getting it and am very pleased with the results.
Stick your location on and one of us knuckle draggers may help you fit it....on mine i needed to solder the wires into the loom so was not an easy job.

Thats a kind gesture, but I wouldnt expect anyone to do that for me, besides, I am way up North.

I just wanted to know if it was advisable, plus if I have info from you guys, I sound convincing in a garage and am less likely to be ripped off..:)

It's already worked a charm at the garage I bought it from, as I had him confused with talk of EAS...
 
The accelarator pedal action takes some getting used to, it take a lot more push than a normal car to get it moving. Even after chipping it you still need a hefty boot to get it moving but then it goes like SOAS. I have a PSI Power box. A simple plug in job even a girl could do!

Claw... you are so right !

Not for a moment have I felt I have made a mistake.

The Motability Car is still here, and will be till September, as they wont take it back till then, they want to be sure they get every last penny out of me.

If I have to spend every penny saved on this car, Fine !, at least its being spent on something that belongs to me, and will benefit me for as long as I want it to.

OK soap box put away...:p

Oh and one more thing... at least I am now part of the LandyZone !! and smiling for a change...:)
 
I thought it was about time I gave you all an update on how things are going..

Well, once again, you guys were all right, and I am grateful for the advice, its saved such a long learning curve.

I have now learnt to give a much harder acceleration in low gears, and the pulling power is much better.

I have also learnt the quirks of starting her up. I wait for the pre heat to stop whirring, foot OFF accelerator, and turn key..

Its only been a couple of days, but I am having so much enjoyment from this Rangie, I can understand why you all feel as you do about yours.

Plus, I thought to post this, so we can see some positive posts about Rangies, as well as the faults.

J will require pics of yourself in said Rangie & standing by Said Rangie preferably wearing Jodpurs, Riding Boots & DEFINATLY carrying a Riding CROP!!!!!

i would be happy if she had a crow bar in one hand and a saw in the other..:doh:
 
I bought mine 4 months ago and like you I love it (her)! Defo get it chipped, mine takes of like a 747! Yes we'll have problems with it (her), yes it'll cost money but my advice?

Take out AA BRC policy. It cost £30 per month BUT you get any garage work up to £500 for the excess of £25! If its over £500 you pay the £25 plus anything over £500. You can use it on multicars as me and the misses have it and use it up to 7 times a year!
Had a new battery fitted last month, £187 invoice, paid £25! Defo worth looking at (p38)!!

Can't wait for the pics!
