Here he is, Stan (named by previous owner and sold on condition he keeps name)

Gearbox issues apart - got a couple of other series questions.

Is the steering REALLY THAT DIFFICULT? Have I just become a pauf with power steering in my 90 and 110?

Also - the rear filler goes to nothing - no tank! The actual tank you fill by lifting the drivers seat base like in a lightweight. Is this normal? I see that theres a big (genuine land rover) lever to swap front and rear tanks, so guess its easy to fit a rear tank?

A bit of a handsome lad for 3 hunner 50 eh?

oh finally, for fixing the rust on the bulkhead, what actual colour is "GREY"

yer big genuine lever int fer swapping front and rear tanks. its fer swapping left to right tanks as per all mil spec series not just lightweights. so yer probelly bought a collection of bits all glued together which dint need be a bad thing. or it might be that you do have a left tank arnorl and it was a ex mil landy than someone has swapped the tub on.

or perhaps the original tank had a leak and a front tank/s was got fer nowt and fitted, which is unlikely as yer have the big genuine landrover tank switching lever

stan looks pretty good for 350 notes! think its compulsory for all series landys to have names!

Sounds to me with the tank lever that the rear tank was taken out due to it leaking and not replaced. Got the same switch in mine, but mine being a swb they are under the front seats. Bet if you look under the rear tub you will find the fuel line to the rear where the tank should be, along with the fuel gauge sender wire. Looks like a nice find

Thanks Ant - you're right - earlier today I was poking about underneath and as well as discovering that it's on a new chassis, saw the fuel line and sender wire ending at correct location, so will get myself a new rear tank.

I was having a good look at the actual switch - it seems that as well as swapping tanks, it swaps sender electrical feed to the single gauge? Is that so?

Yep, you're right. Its actully quite a neat switching unit for the age. Might be a good idea to check all the seals on the switch to make sure its all fine if its not been used for awhile!

what a genius design! So wierd they have that on a car with loads of rods leading to the carb!
