my plan is to learn all i can about this thing and get it all sorted as best possible. now today i decided to go give the door lock springs a go and it went interestingly but i have come up with some other problems lock related im hoping someone can help with.

so here's what i did and where i got stuck.
changed the read driver side door lock spring - it now works manually when using the fob it will try to open but not lift all the way and it wont even try and lock. also when its opened manually its still a lot harder than it should be to open the door from the outside

then i done the back passenger door after almost destroying bits of my hand on the other side this went quick and smooth and im pleased to say the door now opens and closes with ease inside and out and also locks and unlocks with the fob or manually.

then i moved onto the front passenger door and this is where i hit my problems.after removing the linkages (i think i had them all) i unbolted the lock and couldn't get it to move at all, that's when i looked closer and found this

anyone got any suggestions on dealing with this can i just give it a clout with a hammer or do i need to remove all the window workings first.
open to all advice and also interested in learning what things i should be checking first and for what, how all that sort of thing haha as i said im willing to learn and so far its a daily thing

U need to remove the posi screws first on picture 1. The mettle work looks a bit batterd like some one tyres to brake in.

yeah took out the posi's its jammed in place, i think from what i can see the door has been out of alignment at some point and its been slammed against the reviver pin. im hoping to investigate more tomorrow when im also tackling (or at least trying to tackle) the rear window issues.

Are you an Aberdare boy by any chance ? I saw this for sale the other week. You've probably seen me about ,Dark blue disco with a roof rack.

I binned a blue nsf door a few weeks ago

Offered it to a few people but had no takers

Sorry :(

Rich.

lol be about rite i've sorted out the rear doors now well the passenger one works perfect rear driver side works now but only when you open close it manually (i dont mind that as long as i dont have to hold the pin to open the door lol)
tail turned out was a linkage bar off put that on greased hell out of it all and its working perfect

as for the passenger door i have sorted a temp fix lol basically i held the pin up all the way (while it was all together) then drilled 2 small holes as low down on the pin as i could. now i open that door first pull the pin up and put a paper clip in the holes, seems to be working for now at least can open the door from inside or out when its in without the need to hold the pin or key haha.

New Update on things i've done/noticed
re-soldered the entire window lift module (still have no working rear windows front work fine)
strange speedo behavior - as soon as i pull off it will go up to bout 30mph then as i speed up the speedo continues to rise to 46mph (always 46mph) then no matter if im doing 40 or 80 speedo stays at 46mph. if i slow down below 30mph it will start to drop. seen them bounce and seen them stick and seen them broken (not working) but never seen this haha.
also my rev counter seems to have a nervous disposition and trembles a lot lol

any ideas on any of these and where to look or what to check.
all reply's welcomed :D

p.s. im clearly learning here so cant offer to help out with much landy related but any computer questions throw them my way haha

Hi Ceffyn

Sorry cannot help with your door locks but your story is familiar I bought my Discovery a couple of weeks ago, back windows dont work and the door locks are all dicky. However I am working through the other problems that mine has and each problem solved is a milestone. My door locks are after a cam belt change.

With the rev counter there's a brown lead going to the alternator. It was happening to mine , Maybe it needs to be pussed back on or wire stripped back & new connector put on.

Yeah that's the one , I seem to remember he had it up for sale last year for a lot more than what he wanted now.

thanks Thomo will check that little brown wire later (if the rain stops) any ideas on the speedo that just so happens to be working again now. i say that it worked while i just went to Tesco i don't expect it to last haha. and yeah it went up first for 1500 then it dropped to 1200 then 995 then i had it haha

Toonarf did you manage to sort any of the issues yet. the door springs on the back doors are easy there's a good guide on here. haven't don't the front ones due to the drivers door being ok for now and the passenger one well look at my first post haha. and i might have just been lucky but a good spray with easy grease sorted the tail lock (after i found the linkage that was off)

Not done the doors yet, I have serviced it, taken the steering U/Js off to check for being seized, set the valve clearances and fitted new front tyres. I need to trace a fault on the steering and then change the cam belt. Then its windows, door locks and electric mirrors non of which work properly.
Intermittently my rev counter has the shakes at tickover so I will be checking the brown wire as well.

well you've already done a lot more than me and clearly know a lot more than me, had mine a week today and so far i've only done (learned to do) the rear door lock springs (as i said with the guide on here easy job). my front door is a little messed up and tail gate all good so now im on the speedo/rev counter and windows lol. i could do with someone who knows there stuff local ish to take a look for me to be honest as i have no clue. i must say though with the help of this site im happy enough winging it as i go at the moment haha

so yeah hint hint all you pro's out there any of you within 40 or so miles of aberdare im willing to travel to you for pointers haha

Time for a little update on today's "discovery's", went and checked the fluids water needed topping up no min/max line on the expansion so i took it up bout 3/4 and left it there

oil needed a top up was just over min line - now just under max

brake and power fluids all looking good BUT....
whats the little bottle next to the master cylinder! looks like a small expansion for something but i don't know what.

checked out the brown cable looks to be the issue with rev counter hopefully i'll get it changed tomorrow and confirm it.

i also found a few bits im unsure of have taken pics will get them on here to ask at some point lol

and final bit of today's news my speedo seems to be electronic, found this out by removing the clocks and finding no speedo cable. cleaned them up put them back and speedo still a lot higher than it should be and doing what it wants. However... it did fix itself when i may have sort of not used my brakes going over a speed ramp lol (i know its not fixed but still its rite for now haha)

ok final update on this thread.

Door lock springs done including the one in the passenger door (also straightened out the dent near the latch mech)
rev counter is fixes it was the brown wire thanks for the advice to all on that one.
windows have been tested and diagnosed its looking VERY good its the lift unit soldering didnt work so i'll have to look for a new one

and finally im waiting for a reply from paddock on if the transducer they have is the rite one for me :D

Hi Everyone,
I've owned my D1 since August 2014, and one of the rear doors seems to act like ceffyn's when using the remote. What is the door lock spring replacement? Never mind, found the pined thread, right there at the top of the page.

Neither of the rear windows will go down using the window switch on the rear doors, but will from the front centre console, well, after fixing the duff solder joints in the window controller that is.

There's a switch at the front were the other window switches are that stops the rear switches working. Try shorting the White/pink and gray/green wirers together at the back to bypass the switch.

I was thinking it might be that window isolator switch, I'll try shorting the wires you suggest, thanks.
