Bought my first discovery about 3 years ago a 2003 facelift silver ES td5 with 65k auto and really nice, after 3 months of ownership and a few repairs like leaking sunroof and stuff it was wrote of by a skip wagon..

FEB 2012 my Second land rover was a Range rover sport i bought of a small local dealer a 2008 57 reg 3.6 TDV8 in silver black leather and 38k miles paid £24500 for it at the time was a good price... it needed a handrake motor and rear discs and pads withing 3 weeks of owning it and cost me £730 to fix, i then fitted some tyres x 2 and replace the wheels to 22" overfinch supersports another £1100 then the alternator went and battery another £400 repair, that was in may, then it was due a service and needed a central door locking motor and advised on bottom arm bushed and mot, another £500 bill which brought me to Jul 2012 and i had now covered 900 miles since i bought it, it was not getting used much and was costing me more in tax/insurance and depreiciation than was viable for the miles so i sold the range rover sport for £23500 in july 2012 a loss of £3700 over 6 months and 900 miles use...

In september 2012 i decided i wanted another cheaper but as flash or comfy what ever you call it rangie but a lot less money etc...i found one stuck an deal and i was the owner of a P38 in black with 49,000 genuine miles and the car was like new inside and out and then two days later the EBCM went down due to wet carpet from heater water O rings leaking after messing around i did a school boy error and shirted a wire and caused a non start issue on the P38 which is where we are now and upto date, ive spent £600 on the P38 and drove it 21 miles and after paying for it etc i think im doing quite well to be fair looking at it overall i think i stand to have blown the best part of what £7000 in 8 months and covered 921 miles for the priviledge....

Do you think someone is trying to tell me i should never be a land rover / range rover type guy.... or owner...:beer2::beer2::beer2::beer2:

Wiltshire.... Yeah i did to be fair and the fault i have is of my own fault is what makes it worse as the P38 is one of those cars ive always wanted i need a 4x4 for my race car and in the winter i live out in the sticks see, ive always wanted a range rover and always loved there appeal and looks, The disco was taken from me b a skip truck, but the sport my thoughts were this,,, spend every penny ive got get a good low miler and thats mint, and it will look after me," unfortunatley it didnt work like that" and becouse after i got it it was everything i had in it i was frightend to get it dented in car parks use it for work etc etc... hence i moved it on paid finace off and put my cash back in the bank...
P38 seemed a logical choice buy a good one and i should be ok, i know they have there faults and stuff but so does everything just it must be me and my bad luck i guess mate seems i spend plenty buy the best i can and still get burnt lol.....

MP5 swayed by its looks i would of said more than likely....

never mind see what happens just need a guru to come and help me with it lol...

I would sell it and go back to a disco. You'd never get your money back.No landy is without fault, but for something to tow with a discos hard to beat.

Sorry to hear bud. Everyones had a similar streak of bull**** before just a shame that it happend to be Land Rovers.

Don't give up though!

Ouch,

That's really unfortunate.
Has it put you off land Rovers yet?
Do you feel that land Rovers are just not for you ?

Gra.

Very unfortunate, but you were unlucky with the disco. You should go back to a disco 2 or 3, usually very reliable.

To be fair i like the P38 spec and looks better than my disco i think guys but yeah not been the best expierience i must admit lol.. so far anyway

I just dont get it.

maybe Its becoz I`m from the old school,
or maybe its coz I`m just old.

I got a disco 200 just over 3 years ago for almost nowt from an associate,
as in his words, its outlived its usefullness for him & family,
and as he still had a series doosel, he never needed 2.

I was a happy chappy in my landie, learning as i drove, reading on here as faults came,
and began to meet the challenges as they arose.
now 3 or so years down the line,
I have done lots to keep my `ol disco up to scratch.
spent 3 months under it welding/remaking, just about everything I saw that had rust on it.
(i was in no rush)
since that I had a cam belt go, and done that, but done it with tools needed, that I made !
the bent push rods straightened and clocked as true as I could when rolled over a flat worktop!
(i was in no rush)
Ive part renewed brake lines in copper pipe where needed, made by myself,
(yes, i was in no rush)
the heater blower went up in smoke when dear daughter drove the landie despite the warnings NOT to switch it on (should have took the fuse out, my bad!)
so I fitted 12volt PC blower fans in demister tubes to screen.
(was in no hurry)
also wired in a 12volt screen heater thats ontop of dash and blows HOT air when its required.
Over the years i`ve done a set of pads as required, even grinding some rust of the discs with it in low ratio & 1st & engine ticking over - works a treat!
I`ve renewed sterring box oilseals, now oil tight - fingers crossed!
renewed drop arm & track rod ends as required.
I`ve sprayed most the underneath with shultz,
and lots of waxoil in box sections & sills.
must have done lots of other things along the way, but cant remember
as i`m tired, old, other things I cant remember :)

My point is here :->
it was cheap to start with,
its not cost a fortune in 3 odd years,
its still VERY shiney in original factory black,
its so reliable (god help me for saying that)
my ONLY daily driver,
but I can use other cars, plus my vespa scoots, if the need/sunshine arises.
I recon my valued old but good disco 200 is worth a LOT more now than when I picked up from its last owner.

But I read of the other owners of "dare I say it", flashier motors who are hanging themselves with each purchase loosing SO much money all in the name of owning a shinier motor.

Feel sorry for them,
should need counciling if it was me to sh!t money down the drain like that each time I "let another motor go"

would give me nightmares :(

maybe I`ve got more time,
maybe I`ve lots more years than most,
but with it I got to shake my head at those who sh!t money away like that.
