Hi Guys,

I have a 1999 freelander hardtop, when i start the car the TC pops up on the dash till i start moving, then if i turn the steering wheel and pull away it makes a funny noise almost like its coming from th powers teering motor or something i havent been able to put my finger on it. But its only when i start the car, after that it perfectly fine, no noises even if i lock the steering wheel left or right and pull away.

I live in wimbledon can anyone suggest a good mechanic to have a look at this problem ( if it is a problem ) in my area?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

Ash

Tc light comes on and stays on untill vehicle reaches 5mph,or is that just abs light.
Have you taken off the bellypan?
have you lifted the vehcle and rocked the wheel, keeping an eye on all the joints?
have you done a search in the freelander section ?

There is reportedly a common problem with the steering rack.
Buy a haynes manual.Even if you never intend dirtying your own hands. Its nice to have some idea whats wrong, and if you bring it to a mechanic every time something goes wrong ,you will get rid soon.

Its only taken me 18 months to get to the root of the noise from around the base of the steering, inside the engine bay / rack area....found the cause and sorted it out!!

Don't know if you sorted yours as this is an old thread? :D
