I ve had 2 injectors go on my TD6 both in the number 1 slot first one caused a lumpy tick over and occasional run away revs as it was stuck open, 2nd one(£120 recon) caused lumpy tickover again as it was leaking back into the return line reducing the rail pressure. now has a 2nd hand one from a 325d BMW for £40 off the bay and has been fine since. Just a point unless they were brand new injectors you could still have a dodgy one.
just spent months chasing a misfire on my daughters car (petrol)which turned out to be a cracked exhaust valve ,dodgy cam sensor and a stuck injector.
know misfires can be a pain in the rear.

Guys, thank you for all your input and thoughts. The problem is still there, despite the timing having since been rechecked and re-adjusted using genuine LR equipment. After which incidentally, the engine runs even more smoothly and more quietly, than it ever has BUT, the misfire is still there at certain revs. Under tickover, for the most part, it seems to run fine.

Next on the list with all else failing is a change of ECU (2nd hand) planned for this Monday.

Again guys, your time and thoughts all appreciated and noted.

I spent 6 months searching for a misfire on my petrol. Did it all properly, diagnostics, checking things, testing inputs /outputs till eventually came to the conclusion it wasn't a misfire at all. Gearbox.
Occam's razor - All things being equal the solution to a puzzle is usually the solution that is the simplest.

All resolved guys :)

Faulty ECU

Replaced and re-programmed up with a 2nd hand unit - Now 100% and the best it has EVER been :)

Thanks for your thoughts lads
