My misses is a qualified in H&S ( does stuff for HSE ) and she says the gate should have been secured and definitely land owners responsibility. I'd speak to the garage as suggested above! Or report it....that could have seriously injured you.....very lucky indeed.

See a solicitor. You're due some compo on the face of it. There are plenty of ambulance-chaser type lawyers who will advise you for free. Go for it; I would!
